A study conducted by the FDA in 2018 revealed that more than 700 dietary supplements marketed as “herbal,” “natural,” or “traditional” contained active pharmaceutical additives. Herbal medicines (which often lack verified efficacy), can be inadvertently used as substitutes for prescription medications, and they may also be dangerously contaminated. Despite the belief among many consumers that herbal remedies are safe due to their natural origins (there exists the potential for interactions between these herbal medicines and synthetic drugs), leading to toxicity. It is widely misunderstood that herbal medicines are devoid of side effects and are completely safe.
However, there are several studies available today which demonstrate ginger’s effectiveness against various types of cancer. Currently, both American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) and Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng)—often referred to as red ginseng due to its special processing—hold significant medical relevance. This effect is attributed to quercetin, whose toxic impact has been documented across numerous cell lines. A different study could not validate the protective benefits of ginkgo leaf extract against carcinogenesis in various types of cancer and found no significant variations in cancer incidence.
The ingredients responsible for the effect are mistletoe lectins (which are glycoproteins), and viscotoxins, which are small polypeptides 86,87,88. Unfortunately, there is currently a lack of clinical studies to confirm these anti-tumour effects. Frankincense is used in various cultures for Biscotti strain features and flavour religious purposes and for the treatment of various diseases . The effect of St. John’s wort is comparable to the effect of conventional antidepressant preparations, but there are no special clinical studies that have investigated the effectiveness of this plant in tumour patients . Unfortunately, these effects could not be confirmed in clinical studies either .

Researchers are exploring the use of phytopharmaceuticals to prevent oxidative stress and related diseases25.
Discussions are underway regarding paradigm shifts in strategies and scientific approaches aimed at improving the quality (safety), and efficacy of traditional medicines and dietary supplements within global health care. The study of phytotherapy focuses on using medicinal plants and herbal products for the treatment and prevention of illnesses. In this study (we aim to explore the potential benefits of preferring herbal medicines over purified compounds), the realities versus myths surrounding these remedies, drug discovery processes, and their implications for medical education and health care. The benefits of this therapeutic approach encompass good accessibility (cultural considerations), personal preferences, a growing demand for natural and organic options, as well as the already established synergistic effects of herbal medicines. While clinical studies do not dispute the beneficial effects of ginger, more methodologically rigorous studies are needed to substantiate its therapeutic efficacy in combating tumor diseases.
